What does a landscape foreman do?
A landscape foreman takes on more responsibility, overseeing landscaping jobs, and ensuring that all work is completed in a timely and satisfactory manner. As a foreman, you will also be responsible for a team of landscape operatives, including safety and administrative duties.
As a landscape supervisor, you are responsible for all operational and safety aspects of the worksite, including both hard landscaping and soft landscaping elements. From the design and planning to the building and planting, the foreman must manage the work and the staff as well as carrying out practical maintenance tasks and participating in soft landscaping and hard landscaping work.
A further important part of a landscape foreman’s job is communication. As the supervisor on site, it is your job to liaise with managers and the client to report on progress and any issues with the projects you are working on.
What qualifications, skills and experience do I need to be a landscape foreman?
To apply for a landscape foreman job you will likely need at least 3 years’ experience in hard or soft landscaping and it is a definite advantage to have knowledge of both.
While you will have proven landscaping skills from previous jobs, you will also need to have good organisational and managerial skills to take on overseeing projects and be able to process the required paperwork for keeping records of the jobs undertaken. You will also need good communication skills, both with the landscape operatives you are responsible for and the managers and clients you need to report to.
Most landscaping jobs require a valid UK driving licence and a CSCS card is often preferred by employers as well as safety training qualifications.

A landscape foreman can work in many different outdoor environments where hard landscaping and soft landscaping services are needed. This could be parks, the grounds of commercial, public or private buildings or new build areas.
