Qualified Registered General Nurses (RGN) are required to provide care in a home, where the medical needs of the residents are often greater and more complex than for those in a care home.

 

Working in a nursing home

Nursing homes provide 24-hour care, and many nursing home jobs require candidates to be qualified as a Registered Nurse or Healthcare Assistant. Nursing home residents generally need some form of ongoing medical treatment for which a trained medical background is necessary. Daily tasks can include assessing and examining residents, creating a care plan, administering medication, drawing blood, monitoring patients and managing records.

Many nursing home jobs will be working with elderly residents, but there are also nursing home roles where you may be working with people who have physical or mental disabilities that require them to have ongoing medical support and care.
